My nephew was born on Dec 24th, so we always made a big effort to have a separate birthday celebration for him on the 24th, when he was growing up. From my vast distance from 16 (52 years distant), I seem to remember that 16 was when I started to be included in extended family things as an adult instead of a kid. Don't know if his family is the same way.
