oh man... oh god... I just realized I can see both of Walky's parents influence in how he deals with situations, both his dad's laid back passive nature, and his mom's "it's the other person's fault" nature ~<3

2023-12-25 22:26:51 +0000 UTCThe core problem, from Lucy's perspective, was that at no point did Walky dissuade her from trying to earn his folks' respect. He gave her the option of not engaging, but once she had decided to, he was fully on board with doing whatever. He let Lucy go ahead with devaluing herself. In much the same that way Walky now finds himself wishing somebody else had cared enough to stop him from making a stupid mistake, Lucy needed somebody to save her from herself, and Walky, conflict averse as he is, was never going to be that person.

What was the core of the fight? 1- She likes you more intensely than you like her? You don't control that. 1b- She thought you said I Love You when you didn't? Just a mishearing, although she had rose-colored headphones along with the glasses. You could have cleared it up gently as soon as you noticed the miscommunication, it got infected the longer it lasted. 1c- falling in love in the first few weeks is pretty fast. 2- Not liking church? A few points for stretching yourself for something she likes, although that did open the door to the incident. Might have been more honest to say "it's not really my thing anymore". 3- Your parents were being their usual crappy selves? OK, but kids aren't responsible for that, and you did try to warn her against it as best you can. "Your parents are your fault because you haven't tried to fix them with every fiber of your being!" If Amber and Walky naturally just work more by existing together without there being as many landmines everywhere to accidentally step on, maybe that's a better default dynamic. Lucy and Walky could talk it out and repair the cut cloth, if they wanted to. It doesn't seem that unsalvageable. Unless they both believe it's unsalvageable.
