2024-02-25 23:23:42 +0000 UTCNot sure if I'm expressing this well, but...I don't really find Becky's possessiveness over Joyce to be very cute or endearing. I get *why* she's like that, and she's gotten better, but it still rubs me the wrong way. And I can't help but be a little confused by how many readers seem to be super critical of Dorothy intruding on Joyce's choices and agency, but give Becky a pass. As if she's not just as capable of being weirdly invested and controlling of Joyce's sexuality, even if she wraps it up in her cheerful, jokey over-the-top mannerisms. People are joking about it, but I do think that Becky *is* genuinely threatened by the idea that Joyce could have sexual feelings toward Dorothy. Because Becky salved her crush on Joyce with "well, she's straight, can't be helped," but if it turns out Joyce is bi and just wasn't into Becky that way, it'd hurt all the more. And as happy as Becky is with Dina, she's still got a connection to Joyce that's tinged with those feelings.
