2024-02-26 15:21:45 +0000 UTCDina's technically incorrect, getting thrown down into the snow by Becky with a follow-up of cooch-slamming wouldn't get them jailed, probably... it's just if Becky follows that up <i>extended</i> face/cooch mergers and/or pants removal that there'd be issues. I've seen how kids behave on college campuses.

It wasn't like I couldn't see what was going on, I just didn't understand why my peers reacted the way they did. I don't think I've ever seen my experience with interacting with other peoples' emotions shown so clearly- with this one little interaction Dina's cemented herself even further as my favorite character. Every friend group needs a Therizinosaurus to cut through the foliage of weird emotional entanglement.

2024-02-26 05:19:09 +0000 UTCFor someone who a few months ago (in comic time) was saying that she didn't understand people, Dina now cuts through all the bullshit and sees what's going on better than anyone. Or at least she's the only one willing to name it. It took me a minute to wrap my head around the two jealousies she was referring to, but her logic makes perfect sense, and it made her chosen test case a very clever move that would likely address both at the same time. I was a little worried that, as Dorothy starts to admit to herself that she's into Joyce, we'd see... the exact domino effect of jealousies that we're seeing play out here. What I didn't anticipate was how smoothly Dina would cut through it. There's still some conversations to be had and navigating to be done, but I think she's up to the challenge.

Dina's principle is stated in the last frame of https://www.dumbingofage.com/2022/comic/book-13/01-bring-me-to-life-drawing/ruleout/ I think the flashbacks have been showing us Becky's attraction to Joyce in addition to Joyce's crush on Tristan, and this scene flows nicely from that.
