I wish people would stop trying to paint it in such a negative light when we don't know how she would have reacted to being told he didn't want to drink (preferably when they were sober and she was planning a drinking party).

If the resolution is that drinking together is not something they do for now, that's fine (that being the intersection of Joe's "I'm not comfortable drinking" and Joyce's "We can either both be sober or both be drunk"), and Joyce needs to accept it.

I didn't expect Joyce's anger to dissipate so quickly, but Joe's vulnerable self-doubt brings out her goodheartedness. And she turns partially toward Joe to share the amusement: perhaps the me-ness is turning into we-ness. But that still sounds like "penis", ffffft.
