Did something happen to Mary that we didn't see? Because normally, it seems like she would take pleasure in having this sort of conversation with someone, but even here, she looks like she's uncomfortable.

I mean yes, Mary would call Carla a "lying man," but this is more about her belief that almost every guy is a simmering cauldron of rapey lust out to degrade girls and women and leave them sobbing and ruined. I do have to wonder what she knows about Joyce's history with Ryan--I don't think we ever saw her being told about it. Did Roz say something in an unguarded moment?

"Female space" is an interesting phrase from Mary, one I don't think she would've picked up without a semester-and-change of college behind her. "Fornication video" is more like the language I'd expect from her.

Mary is trying to be sneaky and plant her transphobia indirectly enough that it's supposed to feel like a bunch of logical inferences by the time she gets to her dramatic conclusion, or something. Joyce doesn't understand what Mary's trying to do, but at least she is correctly guessing that Mary's up to no good.
