This final Etude is interestingly reminiscent of the first in Op. 10, both heavily featuring arpeggios with the melody being placed underneath - perhaps this is why the nicknames of both are associated with rushing water (Waterfall/Ocean). Another interesting piece of history with the two sets are the dedications - Op. 10 was famously dedicated to Liszt, but it is less known that Op. 25 was dedicated to Liszt's mistress!
